Sachse-Rowlett

These two towns are located east of Dallas but are both within a 30-45-minute drive from downtown. Rowlett, a 130-year-old town that straddles Dallas and Rockwall counties had 56,000 residents at the time of the 2010 census. In recent years, it has become an upscale community that offers residents water sports on the lake and several popular golf courses.

Just northeast of Garland, Sachse is a small town that was settled in the 1860s. It had a population of 20,000 in 2010. This laid-back town began to grow after the completion of the President George Bush Turnpike, which gives residents quicker access to downtown Dallas. It is known for its shopping, particularly the Firewheel Town Center.

Rowlett will be home to a newly developing ambitious 8 acre Crystal Lagoon which will be a centerpiece of Rowlett’s planned $1 Billion Bayside development on I-30 and Lake Ray Hubbard.  The 262-acre project also includes a resort hotel, marina and thousands of residential units.  This will be the first turquoise water beach in the area and one out of 300 in the world.

Garland is a large city northeast of Dallas and is a part of the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex, as well as a suburb of Dallas. It is located almost entirely within Dallas County, except a small portion located in Collin County. As of the 2010 census, the city had a population of 226,876, making it the 87th-most populous city in the United States of America and the 12th-most populous city in the State of Texas. Garland is second only to the City of Dallas in Dallas County by population and has easy access to downtown Dallas via public transportation including two Dart Blue line stations and buses.

Historic downtown Garland features the Granville Arts Center and Garland Plaza Theatre as well as a centralized square of shops and parks.

Firewheel Golf Park

The City of Garland is home to one of the finest municipally-owned golf facilities in the nation. The park offers 63 holes of golf and has gained national recognition as a PGA Tour Qualifying site.

Whether you’re an avid golfer ready to play a round or a novice player looking to hit a bucket of balls, you’ll experience a day you won’t forget at Firewheel Golf Park. The 63-holes of championship-caliber golf include three regulation courses that are designed to both challenge and delight any golfer.

The Bridges Course, est. 2001, has three different and unique nines: The Masters, The Champions and The Traditions – all three boast bentgrass greens. The sculpted fairways are lined with oak and pecan trees while Spring and Rowlett Creek meander throughout. Golfers agree, any choice of nines provides players with a solid test.

The Bridges clubhouse features the Branding Iron Restaurant and patio. It’s a delightful place to sit and enjoy the afternoon breeze while you watch golfers tee off on the first hole of the Champions. The menu includes a variety of delicious foods ranging from finger foods to casual dining, including a full-service Sunday brunch.

The Lakes Course is the toughest 18 of all; stretching 7,134 yards from the back tees, it is a tight and difficult test with carries over ten lakes and plenty of big-face bunkers. It has a slope rating of 139 from the gold tees. Most Firewheel players say, “If the Bridges Course has teeth, the Lakes Course has fangs!”.

The Old Course topography consists of slow-moving streams winding throughout gently rolling terrain. Tree-lined fairways, 65 strategically placed bunkers and heavily wooded areas makes this par-71 course a challenge for all golfers. The Old Course remains a favorite among area golfers.

The Lakes and Old courses boast the Jerry Andrews Pavilion, an open-air event facility that’s perfect for corporate outings or family celebrations.
